Explore life at IIT Bombay — vibrant fests, clubs, academics, and memories that shape India’s brightest minds beyond the classroom.
If there is one word to describe IIT Bombay, it’s WORLD. From a lush green environment to world-class facilities and a diverse student community, Life at IIT Bombay is as dynamic as it is inspiring for every aspirant.
Tech Life: Innovation is Everywhere
At IIT Bombay, technology isn’t restricted to classrooms — it is in every breath of students and professors. You will find students working on everything from racing teams (my favourite) to sustainable housing models. The institute has a wide range of technical teams such as the Mars Rover Team (MRT), AUV IITB, Team Shunya, TorqueX, ERC (Engineering and Robotics Club), and many others.
Every idea finds support here. Whether it’s a robotics project or a coding hackathon, there’s a lab, a mentor, and a community to back you up. The annual Techfest, Asia’s largest science and technology festival, turns the campus into a playground of innovation — where ideas meet imagination and technology meets creativity with mega events like Robo Wars, where bots fight in cages to survive, and countless more events like Cozmo Clench, etc. Such innovative experiences make life truly extraordinary. We personally made an RC plane..

Sports Life: Fitness Meets Passion
If you are into sports, it feels like paradise. The campus has an Olympic-sized swimming pool, indoor basketball and football courts, massive cricket and athletics grounds, and one of the best badminton complexes with multiple courts and professional coaches to help you improve and excel in Inter-IIT.
Every hostel has its own gym, and there is a large central gym with advanced equipment for everyone. Sports here are not just for entertainment — they are a part of the culture. Representing IIT Bombay in the Inter-IIT Sports Meet is considered a dream achievement for students
Cultural Life: Expression Without Limits
What truly completes the IIT Bombay experience is its cultural diversity. There is a club for every passion — music, dance, comedy, photography, fashion, cooking, art, or dramatics. Events like Battle of the Bands, dance competitions like Gyrations, and open mic nights fill the evenings with joy and creativity. Personally, my experience in the modelling club is the best, as I have been a part of it. We prepared for our show (Glamour Grande) with many sleepless nights alongside the whole group. One of the best parts is learning with the team, which is an unforgettable aspect of Life at IIT Bombay.
The best fest and show-stealer is Mood Indigo, Asia’s largest cultural festival. Celebrities, singers, YouTubers, and performers from Deepika Padukone to Armaan Malik have all been a part of it. The vibe during Mood Indigo is inexplicable in words — it’s just a feeling. Every corner of the campus is filled with music, lights, and laughter, perfectly capturing the energy .
Beyond this, IIT Bombay has one of the most beautiful campuses in the country. It has its own hill where you can go trekking with friends and make lifelong memories. We even went there and saw 2–3 snakes of different species. The experience of trekking within your own campus feels truly unique, and you can enjoy the view of the whole campus.
You can also visit the Boathouse to enjoy the beautiful view of Powai Lake inside the campus. The peaceful surroundings and the view of the lake make it one of the favourite places for students. Going there at night is restricted, yet the best view can be seen at night from the roofs of some hostels (H17, H21, H14). The campus is full of trees, and the air feels incredibly pure — something I can especially feel as I am from Delhi.

IIT Bombay is directly connected to Sanjay Gandhi National Park, so it may be possible to spot a leopard. Each day here feels like a different adventure and discovery. You can complete your whole engineering degree here and still find places you never came across.
