Massive update! The moment for which lakhs of JEE aspirants were eagerly waiting has arrived. Registrations for JEE Main 2026 are now officially open. The National Testing Agency (NTA) has come out with major updates for this year’s computer-based test, including the addition of an Onscreen Calculator and a new accessibility mode. Read on for the full details.

Registration is Now Open
Mark your calendar, students. If you are aiming to appear for JEE Main 2026 Session 1, then you must complete the Registration Process before November 27th. But, that’s not all, this year, NTA is entirely overhauling the exam experience. Read further to know how.
The Game-Changing Update: Introducing the On-Screen Calculator
Well, this is probably the most talked-about change. In JEE Main history, for the first time, students will have access to a calculator right on their exam screen. Now, students do not have to fill reams of paper to do rough work or calculations, which consumes their valuable time.
It’s a functional calculator. You can do basic stuff like adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing. Need to find a square root or calculate a percentage? That’s covered too. The highlight? It stays on your screen for the entire duration of the exam, so you can use it whenever you need it.
This should help you solve problems faster and double-check your answers with ease.
A Word of Advice for Students
Use your calculator only when necessary. For simple calculations—like basic multiplication, division, or simplifying expressions—do the math manually. You can handle these quickly on your own, and using a calculator actually wastes time.
Very few questions in JEE Main & Advanced actually require a calculator. Don’t reach for it blindly in every problem. Opening the calculator, typing numbers, and reading the result takes precious seconds that add up.
Work smart. Save the calculator for complex computations, and trust your mental math for everything else.
Aadhaar Integration for Smoother Registration
Another update is that your details will now be pulled automatically from your Aadhaar card during registration.
This means fewer chances of typing errors, fewer back-and-forth fixing mistakes, and a generally smoother application process. One less thing to worry about while preparing for one of India’s toughest entrance exams.
Better Visibility with Screen Magnifier
That’s a valuable addition, great foresight shown by the National Testing Authority. Imagine looking hard at minute, complex figures, a mathematical expression on the screen, and not being sure what it is. That’s solved now. NTA has heard you. They’re introducing a Screen Magnifier Feature.
Simply, hover your cursor over any section of the screen, and it’ll zoom in automatically. Whether it’s a complex figure, a tiny subscript in a chemistry formula, or any text that’s hard to read, you can enlarge it instantly. This feature alone could prevent silly mistakes caused by misreading questions.
Customizable Display Settings
Everyone’s eyes work differently, especially after hours of studying. That’s why NTA is adding an ‘Accessibility’ menu with some thoughtful options:
Dark Mode and Light Mode: Switch between themes based on what’s comfortable for your eyes. If you’re taking the afternoon shift and the screen feels too bright, flip to dark mode.
Adjustable Font Size: Make the text bigger or smaller depending on your preference. No more straining to read small fonts.
Cursor Trail: This adds a visual trail to your cursor movement, making it easier to track on the screen. You can even customise how prominent you want it to be.
These might seem like small touches, but during a three-hour exam where every second counts, comfort matters.
Exam Schedule Details
JEE Main 2026 will be conducted over ten days, from January 21 to 30, 2026. There will be two shifts each day:
- Morning Shift: 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon
- Afternoon Shift: 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM
Your specific exam date, timing, and center will be mentioned on your admit card, which NTA will release closer to the exam dates.
What This Means for You
These updates show that NTA is genuinely trying to make the exam experience less stressful and more focused on testing your actual knowledge rather than your ability to calculate square roots in your head.
The on-screen calculator, in particular, levels the playing field and lets you concentrate on problem-solving rather than computation. Combined with better accessibility features, JEE Main 2026 is shaping up to be more candidate-friendly than ever before.
So, if you’re gearing up for JEE Main 2026, make sure you register before November 27 and start preparing with these new features in mind. Good luck!
