The JEE journey is a marathon of 2 years. Even though it is widely believed that the whole result depends on one day that is the day of examination, what many people fail to understand is that the day itself is the cumulative effect of these 2 years. Another factor that leads to a person’s downfall in this journey is burnout. People think that after completing the syllabus, they don’t have to do as much work and just appear for tests that their coaching institutes conduct.

- Stress Management
- PYQ Preparation
- NCERT Preparation
- Chemistry
Chemistry? How can it be underdeveloped if it is part of the syllabus completion?
Importance of Chemistry in JEE Preparation
Chemistry is a theory and fact-intensive subject that needs regular revision. Many people think once they are through with one chapter, they move on and don’t look back at it for months. Almost everybody is a genius in JEE physic,s and Mathematics is too unpredictable.
So chemistry becomes the deciding factor, As a person who might know a few eccentric facts or exceptions that you missed, they might end up with thousands of more ranks than you. The key thing here to undersatnd is that chemistry is not optional. No matter how vast, how lengthy, how difficult, how overwhelming it may feel you need to do it.
If you know most facts from organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry and even some physical chemistry (usually written in NCERT) you can easily finish the chemistry portion of exam in 25mins. This is a very big advantage over people who are trying to remember answers in an exam or using various guessing techniques. You can devote this extra time to maths, which might be lengthy, and even revise your test, making it easier to spot silly mistakes.
So revise chemistry everyday!
Time Management
You might be Sheldon Cooper of your coaching institute, unless and until you cannot do all the questions under a certain time limit, you are out of the race. Developing time management is a very important skill.
So what is time management?
Time management is knowing or the ability to predict how much time you might take to solve a particular question and then actually solving it under that time. Then you should have a rough idea of how much time it will take to solve all the questions and that should add up to 2 hours 45 minutes for an average JEE Main Paper. 15 minutes should be left for revision as it can do wonders.
Stress Management
Time Management and Stress Management go hand in hand. If you are good at managing stress then managing time becomes easier.
PYQs and NCERT Preparation
Now these two points almost all students know. As JEE Mains is very well reputed for having straightforward PYQs every year, not attempting them is just not acceptable. Even doing PYQs alone can get you a rank enough to crack many NITs.
It is witnessed that many questions, especially in chemistry, are directly asked from the NCERT. Even in Physics and Maths sometimes factual things are asked which are usually not taught in schools or coaching. They are expected to be read from the NCERT itself. So even if you are not in the CBSE board, do refer NCERT for JEE preparation as it is the bible.

- Revise NCERT Everyday: NCERT is the holy book for this examination and even the smallest of facts can come directly. So highlight the non-trivial facts and try to memorize as much as you can.
- Test Analysis: Without analyzing the result of test giving tests is not beneficial. You should keep a track of all the mistakes you have made in past and avoid repeating them.
- Chemistry: Revising important reactions and the factual stuff even bit by bit everyday can help you achieve a superior position in terms of factual intellect compared to others. This can easily help you gain 20-24 marks easily and save you a lot of time too.
- Time tracking: At this time anything you solve should be monitored by a stopwatch. Spending more time on a question than required can have a cumulative effect and result in shortage of time. So before diving into the question, first read it, give 10 seconds to think of an approach, then decide on a time limit, and if it is length,y then come to it at last. Try to finish questions with fewer calculations or no calculations first. This can significantly reduce silly mistakes and become a deciding factor for your rank.
- Stress Management: Managing stress can also differentiate you from other candidates. As you know in CBT examinations, the questions are randomly shuffled, so it might happen that on your screen the most difficult questions appear first. So if you are not able to solve it just skip it and come to it in last, don’t have OCD over your favorite topics and just objectively select the questions that can be attempted.
- Sleep Schedule: The amount of energy you have during exam is directly correlated with the effective sleep you get in night. So from today onwards, fix your biological clock, wake up at 7 am just so it won’t be a problem if you get the morning shift. Try and give a mock test in the morning to see how effective your brain is in the morning and try to increase the effectiveness. Having 8 hours of sleep is necessary to rejuvenate your body and also reduce anxiety levels.
